Tom spent his childhood summers with his grandparents, Leo & Velma Stott, in Meadow, Utah. When he was 10 the family moved from Clearfield to Ogden, where he spent many days exploring the mountain sides above 9th St. He graduated from Ben Lomond H.S. in 1964 and left for a mission to South Brazil in Dec. 1964, returning home in March 1967. He enrolled in Weber State College in March of 1967, but had to withdraw in Dec. due to complications with TB. After 8 months of hospitalization he returned to school and married Maryann Burdett, August 1968. While Tom was teaching at South Dakota State University, 1972-73, Maryann became ill and died May 11th, 1973 after the premature delivery of their one son, Jason Riley Day. Jason died 6 days later, May 17th, 1973

After Maryann's death in 1973, Tom married Judy Linderman. They had four children, Cristie, Erin, Nick & Brian. They were divorced in 1985.
Tom has been a faculty member at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah since returning to Ogden in 1973, after teaching one year at South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD. He was the first director/teacher of the on-campus Child Care Center at WSU. He teaches courses in the Department of Child & Family Studies.

Tom officially retired from Weber State University on July 1, 2010 after 37 years of service at the University.

On June 14, 1993 Tom married Kay Ralston (in photo). They reside in Ogden, Utah. Kay is a public school teacher in the Davis County gifted education program. Kay has four children from a previous marriage:
