AKA: Tom Day
Why was he called Tom??? As a young boy, Glade was not pleased with his
name. His older brother Vance had difficulty saying Glade, so he called
him Tom... it caught on.
When the children were born, he told Nadine
that his name was Glade Richard Day, so on their birth
certificates the wrong name appears. He just didn't want to be Glade
Riley Day. It was not until many years later, when Tom & Nadine were
going on a Cruise out of the country and needed passports that she
found out his real middle name, "Riley".
After graduating from pharmacy school,Tom borrowed $5,000 from a relative
to buy a drug store in clearfield, Utah. The store was a "gold
mine," in the right place at the right time. Tom and Nadine worked
long days 7 days a week to keep up with the demand of the customers.
During the summer months, the children were cared for by relatives
in Meadow and Fillmore. Tom and Richard spent most of their summers
helping their grandfather Leo Stott on the farm in Meadow.
In 1956 Tom & Nadine built a new home in Ogden at 951 Maxfield Dr.
He sold the Clearfield store and worked for the following years for Vince's
Pharmacy and for Fred Ulrich in Ogden. In 1977 they built a new home
in South Ogden at 2457 E. 5675 S. (Regency Dr.).
In the Fall of 2004, Nadine moved into Mountain Ridge Assisted
Living Center (Ogden, UT) where she could receive the additional
assistance and care that she needed.
In the Spring of 2005, Nadine
moved to
Eagle, Idaho (Spring Creek Assisted Living) and Glade "Tom" moved
to Florence, MT where he could be cared for by his daughter, "Sunny"
Hemphill.
Glade died peacefully Wednesday morning, August 23rd, 2006 in
Florence, Montana while living with his daughter Shana "Sunny" Day Hemphill. His remains were cremated as per his wishes.
