By Daughter Amy:
"
My father John B. Bushnell was the oldest child of John & Elizabeth (Brockbank) Bushnell. He was always studious and had a wonderful
memory. His mother said he read everything he could find. At the
age of twenty, in 1876, he graduated from the Univ. of Utah as
one of the first graduates, receiving a normal certificate of education.
He then taught school in Meadow from 1876 to 1880. On June 9, 1880
he married Elizabeth Ferguson. They had four sons and four daughters.
He sent three of his sons on foreign missions.
Soon after his marriage he and his wife moved to Kanosh and managed the new
Co-op Store. In 1884 they moved back to Meadow and went into the
farming, sheep and
cattle business.
he was a very kind and generous man, truly a peacemaker. Everyone who knew
him loved him. Many a weary soul came to his door for help which they always
received.
One week before his death he suffered a stoke. Then every adult Lamanite from
the Piute Reservation came to pay their respects. Many tears were shed as they
remarked, 'Heap good man.' He truly lived in a house by the side of the road
and was a friend to everyone.
